Recently, RBC Wealth Management (WM) decided to build a supportive interactive tool to facilitate deeper discussions and relationships with high net worth clients and their financial advisors. The goal is to give clients quick access to a high-level, holistic picture of their wealth and help them understand their financial information.
CHALLENGE: The current website and mobile app has too many features and data points that are not important to the client. There also lots of financial terms that are not explained which clients have identified as confusing. The UI is also not as interactive and simplified as clients would like it to be.
SOLUTION: As the senior content designer on the team, my role is to use plain language in explaining financial terms for clients to understand regardless of their financial savviness. I am currently updating the RBC enterprise style guide to fit the specific needs of WM clients and collaborating with the team to develop a mid to long-term content strategy.
Quick Wins
Although I joined RBC only slightly over 6 weeks ago, I immediately started contributing to the product content while onboarding. Some of my contributions include:
- Connecting with the lead researcher to understand the research findings from interviews with clients and advisors.
-Creating error messages for the newly released digital consent complementary product for WM clients.
-Rewriting simplified terms and definitions for net worth, cashflow and financial assumptions pages.
-Working with legal to update disclaimers and other legal content.
-Liaising with developers to explain content specifications, locations for dynamic texts and the logic for different user scenarios.
-Reviewing previous contents to identify areas for improvement, possible blockers and opportunities for collaborations.
-Refining the content of the onboarding flow.
-Creating tooltips that explains figures, tables and headers.
-Work with product team to refine the vision statement of the product's OKR and participate in user acceptance testing.
-Presenting content to business leadership to justify word and design choices.
